The Seeds Project is a mold making and casting workshop where students will learn how to create simple pod-like clay sculptures. The sculptures will contain inspirational messages written on parchment paper; the messages are referred to as the “seeds.”

Mary Jo has an MFA in sculpture from Colorado University and has co-created sculptures for the Indianapolis International Airport and Marion County Libraries.

Workshop Fee $135 + $10 Supply Fee = Total $145

In this single session workshop students will learn how to utilize their iphones camera to its maximum potential. Students will learn basic photography techniques such as composition and lighting. As well as how to add special effects through various programs for creative and interesting images.

Emily has been a professional photographer for 12 years. Her artwork has been shown at the Indianapolis Art Center as well as the Murphy Art Center where she had a studio for 5 years.

Workshop fee is $45

This single session workshop is for the business owner who wants to learn how bring their retail product to a wholesale market. Topics to be covered include market research, finding accounts, branding, wholesale paperwork and more. Students will also get a personal consultation regarding their product from Krista.

Krista Bermeo is a glass artist and business woman who had years of retail experience before transitioning into wholesale accounts. Krista sells her unique glass jewelry in galleries and shops across the country.

Workshop Fee is $45
Students are asked to bring in examples of their retail product for critique and Q&A during the session.

This class is a beginners knitting class (ages 5 & up) and no experience is necessary. There are three different projects presented and completed during this workshop depending on the age of the student.

Courtney is a mother, wife, knitter, spinner, pattern maker, gardener, baker, crafter and a wearer of many hats. She is also the owner and creator of Pink Brutus Knits and Lucy & the Bird which is sold online and at our own Homespun: Modern Handmade.

Workshop Fee is $80 (for parent and child pair)

In this one session workshop students will learn about the materials, tools and techniques involved in needlefelting. Along with learning different applications for needlefelting, students will create a two flowers to mount onto a hairpin or brooch.

Amanda is a freelance costume designer and free-time artist and crafter. She loves to make things that are both useful and beautiful.

Workshop Fee is $30
Students must provide their own supplies. The supply list will be given upon registration; items can be purchased locally and are readily available.

Wednesdays May 23 & 30 2012, from 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m, all sessions

Kumihimo braiding is an ancient Japanese technique used to create many things from hair accessories, jewelry, to pet leashes. In this workshop students will receive the tools necessary to make beginner kumihimo braids as well as the knowledge to create more complex projects. Students will create and take home a headband and a necklace in this workshop.

Earlynn has years of experience as a fiber artist and is a member and instructor for the Fiber Guild of Indiana. She strives to spread the word of ancient and traditional weaving and braiding techniques.

Workshop fee is $75
The price includes a $15 supply fee.

Thursday May 24, 2012, from 7:00p.m. to 9:00p.m.
Saturday June 23, 2012, from 11:00a.m. to 1:00p.m.

In this two-hour workshop students will learn introductory hand stitch appliqué techniques for sewing cotton knit fabrics. Students will learn both backstitch and straight stitch, as well as basic design and placement techniques. Students will take home a t-shirt with a stitching of the state of Indiana and the word LOVE appliquéd over it.

Marguerite Benko was born in Massachusetts and has lived all over the country. She is currently a teacher of chemistry in Indianapolis. Marguerite is an active member of the Indianapolis sewing guild and is the owner and operator of It’s All Felt (which can be found at Homespun: Modern Handmade).

Workshop fee is $40
The price includes a $10 supply fee.
Students are asked to bring two t-shirts with them to the workshop, one which will be the final product (suggested to be a basic colored cotton tee) and another for scrap to use as the appliqué (in a contrasting color).

In this workshop students will create a hybrid creature and focus on drawing that creature in many forms as to develop a continuous character. The final session will include drawing the character for a fictitious book cover as to learn text placement, bleeds and general layout.

Candice is a freelance illustrator who has drawn pictures for children’s books, blogs, magazines and other outlets. Candice is the owner and creator of Cordial Kitten where she sells prints, jewelry, and stuffed animals through her online shop, shows and locally at Homespun: Modern Handmade.

Workshop Fee is $135
Students must provide their own supplies. The supply list will be given upon registration; items can be purchased locally and are readily available.

Fridays June 15, 22, & 29 2012, from 6:30p.m. to 9:30p.m., all sessions

After delving into the history of octagonal drums and drum making techniques, students will create their own octogonal drum using woodworking and rawhide stretching techniques. The final product will be a fully functional hand drum.

Mary Jo has an MFA in sculpture from Colorado University and has co-created sculptures for the Indianapolis International Airport and Marion County Libraries. She has been making drums for over 10 years to showcase the art and heart behind this Native American tradition.

Workshop fee is $185
The price includes a $50 supply fee.

This isn’t your Grandma’s hula-hoop. Create your own custom, sparkly hoop with three colors of your choosing. Learn the art of hoop making in this workshop, and then put a new spin on things by joining in the mini instructional class and hoop jam to get you on the path to enjoying your new hoop to its fullest! This workshop is open to adults and kids ages 8 and above.

Krista, aka Sparrow Spinfire, is a local hoop dancer, hoop maker, teacher, and performer. She began making hoops in 2009 and enjoys sharing her love of hooping through hoop jams, teaching and performing, as well as vending her carefully crafted sparkly hoops. Find her on facebook at Cachet Hoops.

The Roman Fold Over workshop is all about a classical loop in loop chain method of metal smithing. Students will get a beginning understanding of coiling, fusing, forming, forging (hammering), chain assembly & polishing involved in silver chain making. Students will leave with a pair of Roman fold over earrings made by themselves in fine & sterling silver.

Chuck is a full time craftsman and instructor of lapidary and metal smithing techniques. Chuck’s highly crafted sterling silver jewelry combines a streamline look with distinctive stones to create something truly unique. He sells his jewelry at Art in Hand in Zionsville along with trade shows and is a member of the Indiana Artisans.

Workshop fee is $49.
Price includes a $4 supply fee.
